There are lots of state/central government schemes which will benefit the underprivileged but these are not known to many. On 27 Jan 2019, we conducted a workshop to a small group of 30+ people and explained about few of the important government schemes related to health insurance, hospitalization benefits, pension and entrepreneurship. We realized almost none were aware of these. Our next step is to follow up with this small group, get them registered and help them avail these benefits where possible. Also, we plan to conduct this workshop to many groups.
Couple of examples as below :
Atal Pension Yojana -> If a person aged 30 pays Rs. 577 per year for 30 years, then after 60, he will get Rs.5000 every month
Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana – Premium Rs.12 per year and total coverage is 2 lakhs in case of death or partial/fully disabled
On this Holy Day 25-Dec-2018, we got an opportunity to donate canes to few visually challenged. They are from different backgrounds i.e. couple of them have pursued Bachelor’s degree and looking for job, couple of them are selling in railway stations, one is a housewife, one working in Vindhya E-infomedia Pvt. Ltd (who provides job for differently abled). The provided canes are of superior quality and strong enough to last for many years.
We distributed food to Pourakarmikas (who cleans our streets). We started serving food around 1 pm for the first batch of around 40 people. There were 11 items (pickle, Poori/Saagu, Vangibath/Raitha, Sweet corn kosambari, Alood bonda, Jangiri, Rice, Sambhar, Curd rice, Channa dal palya, Sabudana kheer) and everyone relished the food. We also served to some underprivileged kids from a nearby hostel. Many said they liked the food very much, ate stomach full and asked when are we coming again ? Some said feeding food is a noble act than giving money. They conveyed their heartfelt gratitude & blessings to all sponsors & supporters. Also from Light Lives team, we THANK YOU everyone for supporting this project.
Mrs. Saraswathi, 45 years, was a patient with Tracheostomy tube for more than 17 years and she was not keeping well since early 2018. She was a single parent for 2 daughters & 1 special child. We know her for more than 5 years and have sponsored education for her kids. It was a big shock for us when she expired unexpectedly during Oct 2018 and we never thought we would be sponsoring for her coffin & death expenses too. From Light Lives, we are helping the children in whatever way possible i.e. education support, moral support, house maintenance for few months etc. We pray God for His blessings & grace on these children !!
This year heavy monsoon has wreaked havoc in many states in India and Kodagu district of Karnataka is one among them. Light Lives along with Health on Wheels conducted 7 medical camps around Madikeri for last 3 days. Also, we distributed buckets, mugs, Tooth brush & paste, napkins etc and approximately 600 people benefitted. Thank you everyone for the support !!
Light Lives team visited Rainbow Home, Chamrajpet, Bengaluru and we donated provisions, stationeries (oil, rice, dal, soap, school bag, pens, pencils, notebooks etc). There are around 70 girl kids and most of them are orphans. After hearing about this activity, many donors generously donated the items. THANK YOU very much to all the donors and supporters. Kids & Staff conveyed their gratitude and prayed for all of us.
